Through a wormhole, like a tunnel, he arrives at the majestic ruins of a city by the sea. He falls into a throne room that is now his abode and seems to have achieved everything.
Triumph after his suffering?
Not even close.
His demons just seem to be his subjects in this deserted metropolis.
The throne room is probably the only intact building on the planet.
As is so often the case, he's waiting for Julia and his new life with her.
Day in and day out he sits on his throne, rules his demons and ponders himself and his situation.
In the evening he watches the beach through a window. A path winds its way down the hill to the sea. He often sees Julia walking through the sand at dusk. She looks depressed, sad.
One day when the brooding about himself subsides and the awareness of the surroundings increases, he notices other details in his throne room.
On the throne there are images that seem to be changing. They tell the story of the city in which it is located. But he doesn't understand.
A door is hidden in a corner of the room. Something tells him there are stairs behind it that lead to the upper floors.
At some point he gets up and opens the door, runs up the steps and is in a long hallway. He feels a ghostly wind in his face, on his skin, runs to the other end of the hall and comes to a large old balcony with a breathtaking view.
Suddenly everything seems different. He perceives the landscape, understands what the images on the throne mean and soars to the strange birds that glide elegantly through the air...dead birds.
He falls and wakes up from this dream, but the knowledge remains.
Somehow satisfied, he returns to the throne and notices what is unique and special about this place.
The door to his throne room opens and there Julia stands in white light. He rises from his throne and walks towards her.
She takes his hand, hugs him.
Are there tears in her eyes?
They leave the throne room and walk down the winding path to the sea. There Julia gets into a boat that gently dances on the waves.
She asks him to follow her.
Together they slide across the sea in the boat.
With every stroke of the oar, the voices he hears constantly increase.
Doubt and hope are his constant companions.
Voices also come from the water because there are thousands of souls of the forgotten city dwellers.
